The Portland State University Vikings lose to the University of Texas Longhorns 10-3 on Wednesday afternoon. The loss was partly due to an absence of key players (Ross Gale, Pat Markunas, Harrison Edwards and J.J. York) and the addition of new players (Sam McDonald, Larry Draper and Andrew Gorski) still trying to work together with their new teammates. The Vikings (6-5-0-1 – 13pts.) came out flat and Texas (10-5-1-0 – 21pts.) punished Viks’ goalie Miles Wahrer, who faced 71 shots and made 61 saves.

Portland State got a solid performance from the three new players as they all got on the score sheet with points (McDonald the only one of the three to register a goal). However, the Vikings faced a red hot Texas team who got a 1 goal and 7 assist feat from Longhorns’ right winger Louis Aprile and a 5 goal and 2 assist performance from center Joseph Logan in the blowout.

The Vikings got a 1 goal and 1 assist game from Captain Alex Zsenyuk and a 2 assist game from Alternate-Captain Hunter Levengood in the loss. Levengood (7 goals, 11 assist for 18 points) and Zsenyuk (8 goals, 9 assist for 17 points) are number one and two on the team in points for the season.

The Vikings will now focus on Western Washington University, as they face the Vikings from the North in the 3rd and 4th installments of the “Battle of the Vikings”. The Portland State University Vikings will practice Thursday night and drive to Bellingham, WA on Friday to play a game at 10:15pm (Pacific Standard Time) and then again on Saturday night at 7:30pm (PST).

Both games at Western Washington University will be broadcasted on Viks Radio. The Pre-Game Show will begin 30 minutes before the start of the games.
