Viks Come From Behind, Win in Shootout October, 24th 2009
The Portland State Vikings hockey team came back from a two goal defecit in the third period to defeat Western Washington 4-3 in a shootout. Goalie Ryan Stanchfield stopped 37 shots and all 3 in the shootout. WWU goalie Daniel Senner stopped the first two shooters in the shootout: Hunter Levengood and Anthony Libonati, but Tucker Dougherty put the game winner behind him for his third goal of the game. After Dougherty scored in the 1st period Western took the lead from the Viks in the 2nd period to make the score 2-1. Western added to their lead in the first minute of the 3rd with a goal by Nick Love. With 3 minutes left in the game, Dougherty netted his second goal. Then with one minute left in the game Ryan Ellis tied the game with an assist from Adam Webster and Stephen Eibert. After five minutes of a scoreless overtime, where Western did not have a shot, the Viks ended it in the shootout. The Viks had 54 shots on goal. Their next opponent will be home games against the University of Oregon on Nov. 6th and 7th. |
